Edmonton Sun: What Are You Talking About?
Tiger’s career over? Really? I think not Edmonton Sun. Leave those kinds of speculations in Canada.
In an article by Dr. Gifford Jones of the Edomonton Sun.com, Dr. Gifford Jones makes the outrageous speculation that Tiger Woods’ career is over because of his recent ACL surgery. While I understand the crucial nature of this surgery, I am more disturbed by the comparison that Dr. Gifford Jones makes.
The comparison of Bobby Orr and Hockey to Tiger Woods and Golf.
I can appreciate the intensity of Hockey because I myself am I huge Anaheim Ducks fan, and a huge Hockey fan. But really? Those two aren’t even the same. Why not compare apples to apples here Edmonton?
“So as much as I admire Woods, his drive to play the U.S. Open is not sending the right message to other athletes. It has never made sense, and never will, to make an injury worse before it’s treated. ” Dr. Gifford Jones said.
The main reason for the criticality of the torn ACL is that Tiger’s well known violent swing incorporates a “pop” or “snap” motion at the middle of his swing that forces his hips to follow through with great intensity. In fact, Woods has been quoted saying, “When I need a few extra yards, I pop my left knee in my downswing.”
This being the case, Hank Haney, Woods’ swing coach and Tiger are going to have to do without that extra yardage for his knee’s sake. But will that end Tiger’s career? Hardly. Tiger Woods is the best golfer of all time and will continue to rock the leader boards in the future. It has always been my firm belief that 50% of Golf is mental and the other 50% is physical. Tiger is in great physical condition and with his performance at the 2008 U.S. Open, has proved that his mental toughness is his secret.
Note to the Edmonton Sun: Stick with Hockey because Tiger Woods is the only Superman that isn’t affected by any Kryptonite.
